Ordo Ritualis (Black Edition)
March 21, 2025
In my life, there are rituals I read about in books, learned from someone, and created on my own. But there are also rituals in sound, sonic worlds that tell a story—about our time, about loss, about encounters with the unknown. This album, Ordo Ritualis, is a small collection of these rituals, created by incredible composers: Missy Mazzoli, Bryce Dessner, Martijn Padding, Fjóla Evans, Kaveh Vares, and Heather Pinkham.

“Whenever cellist and vocalist Maya Fridman releases a new album, I celebrate. [...] Maya's musicianship is superb, both as a cellist and as a vocalist. But it is probably her sensibilities about outstanding music that needs to be performed and heard that most attracts me.”
Rushton Paul, Positive Feedback
“Using a panoply of cello techniques (with plenty of overdubs), vocalizing, pizzicato, mutes, harmonics and plain old gorgeous cantilena playing, Fridman’s virtuosity and creativity never ceases to amaze. [...] The TRPTK recording maintains the impossibly high standards Brendon Heinst brings to all his releases.”
Anthony Kershaw, Audiophilia
“There are rewards aplenty to be had from either version, especially when each is abundant in Fridman's cello artistry and her impeccable musicianship. Credit her also for programme choices that are inspired, imaginative, and anything but run-of-the-mill.”
Ron Schepper, Textura
