Their evocative musical narrative for cello, voice, and electronics reveals the hidden story behind Medusa's abuse and her fateful transformation. In the ancient tale, once-priestess Medusa is raped by Poseidon. Athena, consumed by anger, blames Medusa, transforms her into a monstrous Gorgon. Aside from losing her human features and being cast to a remote island, Medusa also got the curse of transforming into stone anyone who would look into her eyes, making it impossible for her to have any human interaction. Drawing on this myth, Saskia Venegas gives voice to the nightmare endured by those living with post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of sexual violence. Their reality is deformed by the veil of dissociative periods, anger outbursts, and uncontrollable fears, with isolation as a common outcome. Medusa emerges as an intense and haunting musical performance. It is a theatrical concert, a programmatic journey in which the hidden story of Medusa will be unfolded.
